What each measurement can tell you
ResultUseful forWhat it cannot prove
Detected formatCatching an HTML error page or a photo renamed .mp4. The header is checked rather than trusting the extension.A recognized header does not validate every byte or scan for malware.
Dimensions & shapeSeeing whether a file is portrait, landscape or square, and how many pixels it contains.Large dimensions do not prove that the creator’s original detail survived compression or upscaling.
Duration & average file bitrateChecking whether the browser can read the video metadata. Average bitrate uses total bytes divided by duration. It includes audio and container overhead. It does not identify the video codec or certify smooth playback.

If the browser cannot read the file

Keep the original and try it in your usual media player. A supported container can hold a codec your browser does not decode. A partly saved file can cause the same symptom. If your browser’s download list reports a failed transfer, finish that download before inspecting it.

This tool reads metadata; it does not repair files, transcode videos, remove watermarks or verify download completeness. Animated images are reported by their canvas dimensions, not frame count or animation duration.
