Save downloads on iPhone
Opening a preview and saving a file are different steps. Use this guide to find your Instagram, TikTok or Snapchat download on iPhone.
Start with a public link
Copy a public post link, paste it into the matching downloader and choose Download. If Safari does not allow the Paste button to read your clipboard, touch and hold the link field and choose Paste.
Find a downloaded file
After confirming the browser download, check Safari’s download list and the Downloads folder in Files. The selected download location depends on your Safari settings. A preview alone does not save a file.
Save a preview to Photos
When Safari opens an image or video preview, use the available share or image menu to save it to Photos. Available actions depend on the media type and iOS version. If that option is unavailable, save the file to Files first and open its Share menu.
Return to your results
Use Back to return to the source-link results. Temporary file links expire; paste the original public post link again if an old download has expired. Keep the original link if you want to find the creator later.
Which step have you reached?
| What happened | Where to look | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| You can play a preview in the web page | Still on the website | Use the file’s download button. Playing a preview does not create a saved copy. |
| The browser reports a completed download | Its Downloads list, then Files at the selected download location | Open that file. Check iCloud Drive or On My iPhone according to your settings. |
| The file is in Files but not Photos | Files and Photos are separate libraries | Open the saved file and check its Share menu for an available Save Image or Save Video action. |
| An image saves from a preview menu | Photos, if that is the action you selected | Check the recent images in Photos; this route may not create an item in the browser’s Downloads list. |
If “Save Video” is missing
First check that the file finished downloading and opens normally. An unsupported encoding or a non-media response may not offer the same actions as a playable video. Keep the original file and inspect it before renaming or editing it. The file inspector works with a saved copy selected from your device and does not upload it.
If an old file button has expired, return to the downloader and paste the original public post link. A bookmark to a temporary file URL is not a durable backup.
Save only content you own or have permission to download.
